Sheinelle Jones, beloved co-host of NBC’s Today 3rd Hour, has been noticeably absent from viewers’ screens for the past four months. Her last appearance on the show was on December 18, 2024, and since then, fans have been wondering what happened to the always-energetic and positive morning personality.
It was revealed earlier this year that Sheinelle has stepped away to tend to a serious family health matter. While the specifics of the situation have been kept private, it was confirmed that the issue does not involve Sheinelle herself or her three children.
In a rare and heartfelt update during the April 11, 2025 broadcast of Today, her co-hosts Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer spoke directly to viewers to reassure them of Sheinelle’s well-being and to express their love and support.
“I talked to her just the other day,” Craig Melvin shared. “She’s been incredibly touched by all the messages and love people have sent her way. It really means a lot.”
Al Roker, who has weathered his own health challenges in recent years, added warmly: “We’re praying for her. She’s family to us, and we’re keeping her and her loved ones close in our thoughts.”
Dylan Dreyer echoed their sentiments, adding, “She misses being here. And she will be back.”
Sheinelle herself addressed her absence in an emotional Instagram post back in January. In a message filled with gratitude, she wrote:
“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I've been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I'm taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
“Your kindness has meant the world to me. Thank you for your continued love and support.”
Known for her warmth, intelligence, and vibrant personality, Sheinelle Jones has become a mainstay on the Today show since joining NBC in 2014. She's also a wife, mom of three, and host of the "Through Mom's Eyes" digital series — which, fittingly, is now inspiring her debut memoir, slated for release in October 2025.
Titled Through Mom’s Eyes, the memoir will reflect on her own life and career, offering a deeper look into the stories she’s helped share, particularly those of celebrity mothers.
For now, Sheinelle’s seat at the Today table remains open — but it’s clear that her colleagues, and her fans across the country, are ready to welcome her back with open arms whenever she’s ready.
As Al Roker so perfectly put it: “We’re just praying for her.”
